Our Story

Handmade, All Natural & Small Batch

At Loré Loré, the art of knitting is celebrated through a unique blend of tradition, contemporary craftsmanship, and sustainability. In an era where fast fashion prevails and much of the textile industry has shifted offshore, Loré Loré stands as a testament to handcrafted, small-batch production, dedicated to reviving domestic artistry with all-Australian, all-natural, and all-handmade knitwear since 2009.

Produced either on domestic knitting machines or by hand, Loré Loré is dedicated to providing an ethical alternative to mass-produced fashion. Each piece reflects a commitment to high standards in sustainable fibre sourcing and equitable labour practices, transforming Loré Loré knitwear into cherished creations rather than mere garments. The designs extend personal identity, showcasing individuality through colour, texture, and pattern. Embracing a 'Nana Chic' style, Loré Loré blends classic elegance with contemporary flair. Each piece is crafted to be versatile and enduring, designed to be loved and worn throughout the seasons.

Through a long-standing partnership with a local, family-run yarn supplier, Loré Loré designer Lorena carefully selects yarns and quantities for her collections from the supplier’s range of mill ends and redundant yarns sourced from Melbourne’s knitting and weaving mills. Using predominantly 100% Australian Merino Wool during colder seasons and 100% Cotton and Linens during warmer months, Loré Loré transforms these materials into exquisite, sustainable knitwear that promotes breathability and is designed to be worn throughout the year. Loré Loré’s commitment to slow fashion means that every piece is not only timeless but also a testament to the dedication to environmental stewardship and artisanal quality.

Each Loré Loré piece is designed to be versatile, durable, and timeless, offering a fashion-forward approach while honouring traditional craftsmanship. With Loré Loré, you’re not just wearing knitwear; you’re embracing a legacy of craftsmanship and a commitment to a more thoughtful and sustainable fashion future.

Meet the creative hands

Loré Loré is more than just a brand name; it's a heartfelt symbol of love, family, and cultural identity. A cherished nickname given to designer Lorena Gonzalez by her grandfather, “Loré Loré” has been a constant companion throughout her life, reminding her of her roots and the warmth of her heritage.

Lorena grew up in Melbourne as a first-generation Australian to a Chilean family, where culture and fashion were woven into her upbringing. From an early age, she was dressed in beautifully coordinated outfits, often resembling a perfectly styled doll. This sparked her love for fashion and curating the perfect ensemble, a joyful ritual she shared with her sister and cousins growing up.

Her journey with knitting began in childhood, taught to her by the women in her family. This craft became a cherished part of her life, a way to connect with her heritage and express her creativity. Lorena's passion for textiles was truly ignited when a cousin shared her knitwear portfolio. In that moment, she knew that knitwear design was her calling.

Lorena pursued this passion by studying Textile Design at RMIT University, specialising in knit construction. After graduating, what began as a simple joy in creating knitted gifts for friends and family quickly blossomed into something much more significant. The love and appreciation her creations received motivated her to continue crafting, which ultimately led her to establish Loré Loré.

During her journey, Lorena spent several years living in South Korea, where she immersed herself in the local fashion scene. The distinctive silhouettes and styling she encountered there deeply influenced her designs, adding a unique flair to her knitwear.

Upon returning to Melbourne, Lorena infused Loré Loré with a fresh perspective, expanding her accessory and knitwear lines. Her time in Korea enriched her creative vision, enabling her to blend influences with her cultural heritage.

Beyond designing, Lorena found a deep passion for sharing her craft with others. She introduced machine knitting workshops through Loré Loré, aiming to educate the community about the artistry behind handmade fashion. Her workshops focus on preserving the art of domestic machine knitting, ensuring this traditional craft continues to thrive.

Through Loré Loré, Lorena blends tradition with modern design, creating pieces that are both personal and universal. Each design reflects her journey, her love for her family, and her deep connection to her cultural heritage.
